City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services

The Bureau of Environmental Services provides Portland residents with Clean River programs including water quality protection, watershed planning, wastewater collection and treatment, sewer installation and stormwater management.

The West Willamette Restoration Partnership (WWRP) supports habitat enhancement and stewardship efforts in southwest Portland’s Willamette River subwatersheds to provide a key link in the wildlife corridor connecting Forest Park and Tryon Creek State Natural Area.  The natural areas in the corridor protect and clean our air and water, support native plants and animals, and provide an extensive system of trails and view corridors for people to enjoy.   Healthy forests and natural areas in the West Willamette corridor will set an example for other citizens and property owners to follow. To read our Strategic Plan, click here

The following organizations, agencies, and community groups are active members of the Partnership:

The Partnership

West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District

We're here to serve West Multnomah County and Sauvie Island residents with conservation planning, invasive weeds, livestock management, grant funding, habitat restoration, gardens or other issues for which they need assistance.

City of Portland Portland Parks & Recreation

As part of its program goals, PP&R is committed to caring for the environment in our natural areas by working to stem the invasion of non-native invasive weeds that displace our native plants. This is an essential step in restoring our natural areas and in creating healthy habitats needed to support wildlife, including salmon. It also enhances our stormwater quality. This ecosystem management process uses our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, and PP&R has been increasingly successful in removing some of the most damaging exotic plants that have invaded our park lands. There are many ongoing projects taking place and more are planned.

Columbia Land Trust

Our management efforts are guided by stewardship plans developed with the help of scientists, neighbors and partner agencies. We restore degraded habitats to help protect indigenous plants and animals while we strive to maintain historic uses and promote responsible enjoyment of our natural resources.

Since 1990, Columbia Land Trust has worked with ranchers, farmers, orchardists, conservationists, foresters, public agencies and individuals who share a commitment to our region’s precious resources and landscapes. To date, we have conserved more than 18,000 acres of natural areas, farm and ranch lands, forests and critical habitat in Oregon and Washington.

Friends of Marquam Nature Park

Friends of Marquam Nature Park is a non-profit community-based volunteer organization. We work in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation and others to conserve, maintain and enhance the historical, natural, and recreational resources of Marquam Nature Park and to educate the public about the park's unique natural and cultural history.

Friends of Terwilliger

Friends of Terwilliger (FOT) started informally about 30 years ago to oppose a proposed apartment complex adjacent to the Parkway. In time it became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to protect the natural character and scenic beauty of the Terwilliger Parkway corridor. FOT has been instrumental in getting over 190 acres along the Parkway preserved as open space. Within the last 10 years FOT has focused more on habitat and watershed restoration along the parkway. They have been active in the West Willamette Restoration Partnership and have removed countless acres of ivy.

Southwest Watershed Resource Center

The Southwest Watershed Resource Center (WRC) inspires awareness and action on behalf of watershed health in SW Portland neighborhoods, through a partnership between Southwest Neighborhoods, Inc. and the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services. We accomplish this by providing residents with technical information and referrals for invasive plant removal and native plant landscaping, stormwater management, natural gardening and other practices that enhance the health of local watersheds, offering free education programs and community presentations for youth and adult audiences, offering free education programs and community presentations for youth and adult audiences

Oregon Health & Sciences University

As the state's only health and research university, OHSU brings together patient care, research, education of the next generation of health care providers and scientists and community service to improve the health and well-being of all Oregonians. OHSU is a proud partner of the West Willamette River Partnership and is working towards restoring over 70 acres of natural area located on its Marquam Hill campus.
